Quick update

Hello!
Here is a quick update on what we are doing:

The French grade 4s are creating their pen pal letters.
We are exchanging with another Halton school. The students already have a model of the letter which is found in their cahier and on a twitter picture (account found on the right hand side).
The rough draft should be ready by the end of the period January 18 2016 latest. I will then correct it so they can write their final good copy.

The French grade 2s are learning about classroom objects

The French grade 1s are learning about clothing items

The grade 3/4 drama/dance We have gone over dance elements and dance and are currently focusing on drama now. The students are using the drama elements they’ve learned in various plays.

The grade 3/4 Art The students are doing a mixed media project where they are incorporating paint, pastels, collage to create their vision of 2016. They have imagined they were December 31st 2016 and thought of what they had accomplished throughout the year.  This means what they are putting on their board has probably not happened yet or they are in the process of making this a reality.

Please bring magazines from home for this! The grade 4s will then have to explain their thinking using the Art elements.

French Holiday, Christmas and Winter Songs

The following videos/songs are divided into the 3 following categories for inclusiveness and interest:
-Holiday Songs
-Traditional Christmas Songs
-Winter Songs

Traditional Christmas Songs:

Winter Songs:

Holiday French Movies

The Full Rudolph movie in French:

Le Noël des 9 Chiens:

Le Père Noël et le bonhomme de neige:

Robots!

The grade 4 students have been working hard building their robots! I’m excited to see how to see the finished product and to hear the students to talk about them!

The letter sent home 3 weeks ago explains the unit we’re working on:
“This unit focuses on developing literacy skills and strategies to make predictions, make connections and reflect. In addition, students are learning body party, colours, numbers (1 to 10), physical descriptions and the underlying theme of respect, which encompasses greetings, cooperation and good manners.”

The finished robots are due Friday December 11 2015

If a little over a week of class time is not enough for the students to finish their robots they are encouraged to finish it at home.

The students will receive the instructions and their sheets necessary to interview their partners about their robots and to present their own this week. They should prepare for this as well.

The student robot interviews will start Monday December 14 2015. We will also have a gallery walk around the class where students will have the chance to present their robots.

If a student is away please let me know as soon as possible!

Thank you,
Mme. Girouard

Easy access to videos

To simplify navigation and learning I have started categorizing some of the videos.

Students have to watch a minimum of 5 of these videos for homework tonight.

They should see a minimum of 2 videos every night.

This can be found under the EDU. VIDEOS tab or here:

A quick update (FRENCH)

Hello!

I thought I would post a quick update so you know what we’ve been up to for the past while.

Grade 1:

We have gone over “Bonjour (hello)”, numbers 1-20

Every grade 1 student in my class has a duo-tang with poems.

Poems we’ve gone over:
-Tête, épaules, genoux et pieds
-Boo! (A short Halloween poem)
-Comment ça va?
-La danse des couleurs (as well as colour worksheets)

Grade 2:

We reviewed “comment ça va? (how are you)”, we are going over “quel temps fait-il? (the weather)”, numbers from 1-20

Every grade 2 student has a duo-tang with poems.

Poems we’ve gone over:
-Octobre
-L’automne
-Les feuilles
-C’est l’Halloween ce soir
-Novembre

Grade 4:

Every student should have a binder with 5 dividers: Référence, À l’écrit, À l’oral, La lecture & Les examens. (This is the student’s responsibility)
I have also given them a “cahier” (notebook) to write their notes and keep in their binder.
The first page in their binder should be the contract sent home at the beginning of the year to be signed by the student and the parent/guardian. Their pages and cahier should be organized in the appropriate sections.

These are all in the student’s “cahier”, “référence” sheets or both.

We have gone over:

-“bonjour”, “comment ça va?”,
-“Les jours de la semaine (days of the week)”,
-“Les mois de l’année (Months of the year)”,
-“La datte (the date)”
-“Les saisons (seasons)”
-“Les couleurs (colours)”
-“Les objets de la salle de classe (Classroom objects),”
-Simple phrases like “Comment dit-on ____ en français (how do you say ___ in French)”,
-Numbers 1-20 and have touched on numbers to 60

-Simple questions with question words and answers (we do this everyday at the start of class in an activity called “Super prof” such as:

  • Comment t’appelles-tu?                   Je m’appelle ___________.  Or….
  • Quel est ton nom?                             Mon nom c’est ___________.
  • Quel couleur sont tes cheveux?       J’ai les cheveux ___________.
  • Quelle couleur sont tes yeux?           J’ai les yeux ___________.
  • Quelle est ta couleur préférée?       Ma couleur préférée est le ___________.
  • Quel est ton sport préféré?               Mon sport préféré est le/la ___________.
  • Qui est dans ta famille?                    Dans ma famille il y a ___________.
  • Quel âge as-tu?                                 J’ai ______ ans.
  • Qu’est-ce que tu aimes faire?          J’aime ___________. OU (OR) J’aime faire ___________.

We are now starting a unit from a new resource called “C’est parti 1” which was made specifically for the new French curriculum.

The unit we are starting is called “Mon robot respectueux” where our final task will be to build a robot and “program” it to have good manners in French.

I have gotten rid of the dead links under the shows tab.
